Campus Confections: Giant Gingerbread Bryant-Denny Stadium

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Just in time for the holidays, giant gingerbread replicas of The University of Alabama’s most iconic landmarks, Bryant-Denny Stadium and Denny Chimes, are on display in Lakeside Dining Hall on campus.

Crafted by Bama Dining’s Executive Chef Matt Lowery and his culinary team, the impressive confections are built from gingerbread, frosting and assorted candies.

Bama Dining has typically built a gingerbread house for display each holiday season but took it to a new level last year by sculpting Denny Chimes out of sweets. This year the team wanted to take it a step further.

“It has always been a passion of mine to step outside of the box and create something that will bring others happiness. This rings so true with our students at The University of Alabama,” said Lowery. “They are so passionate about their university and the Crimson Tide. Watching them stop and take photos with the Bryant-Denny Stadium Gingerbread House is the icing on the cake!”

The Bryant-Denny Stadium gingerbread replica is approximately 6 feet long and weighs approximately 750 pounds. It features more than 3,500 pieces of candy placed by hand and took more than 40 hours to construct.
