UA Dance Company Takes Original Performance to Global Stage

A group of University of Alabama dance students recently presented their original performance for an international audience at the world’s largest performing arts festival.

The Yonder Contemporary Dance Company performed its captivating dance concert, “Unstuck With You,” at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland Aug. 5-12.

Take a Look Behind the Scenes of the Student-Produced “Unstuck With You”

“Unstuck With You” is the result of a yearlong journey with a team consisting of eight College of Arts and Sciences student dancers and two advertising and public relations students, who managed press and marketing for the dance concert. The dance was first conceptualized in fall 2022, and since then, the team has refined its choreography and storytelling, presenting the work regionally in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Huntsville and Memphis during spring 2023.

The production takes inspiration from the outer edges of the universe. Enhanced by Michael Wall’s captivating music, with original text by Jessica Lee Richardson as the throughline, the show prompts the audience to consider their impact on one another and their unique place in the universe.

Yonder presents biennial evening-length performances internationally, collaborating across disciplines such as dance, advertising, public relations and music to cultivate cross-disciplinary partnerships and enhance appreciation for contemporary dance at the University.
