UA COMMEMORATES 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF DESEGREGATION — The University of Alabama is hosting a series of events commemorating the 60th anniversary of the desegregation of UA. On June 12, the film “Crisis: Behind a Presidential Commitment” documenting the events of June 11, 1963, will be shown at 1:30 p.m. in Foster Auditorium. Dr. John Giggie, director of the UA Summersell Center for the Study of the South, will lead a group discussion following the film. UA PLANS UNIVERSITY CLUB RENOVATIONS AND RE-OPENING — UA is renovating and planning to re-open the University Club in partnership with Invited, the nation’s largest owner and operator of private membership clubs, in May 2024. Located in a historic property on Queen City Avenue, the University Club is within walking distance of the campus and Bryant-Denny Stadium. Its continued operation will support the University’s mission and the campus community by providing an immersive learning experience for UA students as well as a premier dining and social establishment for faculty, staff, alumni and visitors. UA WELCOMES RURAL PRE-MEDICAL STUDENTS FOR TRAINING — The UA College of Community Health Sciences recently welcomed the second class of the Tuscaloosa Rural Pre-Medical Internship, a program for college students in pre-medical studies who are interested in rural primary care practice. In the seven-week summer program, students learn about the health needs of rural Alabama residents, particularly in the fields of family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics. Participants also gain a better understanding of the day-to-day life of family medicine doctors. In addition, the program seeks to enhance students’ understanding of medical school and increase their competitiveness for medical school admission. JUNIOR NATURALISTS: TURTLES — Join the Alabama Museum of Natural History and The Urban Turtle Project for an exciting day of exploring and learning about turtles through the Junior Naturalists program June 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants must register for the event. Once registered, directions to the event location will be provided. The cost of the program is $8 per child and adult pair. This is a cash-only event.
