UA Students, Faculty Explore India Through Gandhi-King Initiative January 26, 2023 Written by Bryant Welbourne 1 min read TwitterFacebookLinkedInEmail A group from The University of Alabama and Alabama A&M University traveled to India in early January as part of the first ever Gandhi-King Scholarly Exchange Initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Participants toured the Kalamkush Handmade Paper Centre. UA’s Dr. Joy Burnham; Madam Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi; and counselor education doctoral candidate Sylvia Hollins. The group toured the Gandhi Smriti Museum, the site where Mahatma Gandhi spent his last days. Students created a memory web as an activity on the last day of the trip. The group celebrated a birthday during the trip. Participants visited the Taj Mahal.
