Why I Got Vaccinated: Students Share Their Stories Part 2

All UA students are encouraged to be vaccinated for COVID-19 to Protect Our Herd. And, there are as many reasons for wanting to get the vaccine as there are students on campus. Here are just a few of their stories.

“It’s going to help us be able to be in person in classes, and not be on Zoom.”

Sam Rickert
Political Science Student, SGA Executive Vice President

As SGA Executive Vice President, Rickert works with freshmen leaders and saw the toll last year took on their experience. In addition to protecting his family, friends and self, helping get campus back to normal was one of his goals with being vaccinated.

“By getting the COVID-19 vaccine, we’ll be able to actually have in-person sessions and freshmen can get to know each other and be able to pass legislation and function at a lot higher level.”

“I have lots of friends and family members who are immunocompromised.”

Kat Thaggard
Psychology/Pre-med Student, Capstone Men and Women, Sophomore

Thaggard says her decision to get the vaccine was easy. She wanted to protect the people she loves the most, including those that have had the highest risk. And getting back to the campus life she knows and loves is icing on the cake.

“I’m definitely looking forward to full capacity in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Looking forward to Saturday football games. Also, looking forward to days when it’s really hot outside and you go outside to the Quad and you can’t even see a patch of grass anywhere because there are so many people outside having fun.”

“I got it, especially, for my family.

Max Brown
Biology Student, Capstone Men and Women, Freshman

Brown says he got vaccinated so he could be comfortable going to family events, hanging out with friends and attending large social gatherings.

“I can’t wait to experience the day-to-day interactions on the Quad, in the Ferguson Center, but also the big events, too, the football games, the basketball games. Those are absolutely going to be a blast. I can’t wait for those.”
