Spotted by the Quad! A female owl made a nest and had owlets in 2020 in one of the trees on the Quad. Vibrant as ever, the petunias can be found only in select areas of campus. Lizards and geckos are commonly seen around campus. Magnolia blossoms dot the campus, blooming primarily in spring and summer. Have you seen the cherry blossom trees by McLure Library, across from Bryant-Denny Stadium? The trees bloom annually in the spring. Azaleas bloom all around campus, particularly around the President’s Mansion and Crimson Promenade. UA students get to enjoy all seasons at the Capstone. Bumblebees, butterflies and more can be found around campus and the UA Arboretum. With about 20 needle-sharp teeth, squirrels can gnaw open foods as tough as hickory nut shells. Framing Gorgas House, the tree in front of the building continues to grow each year. Known as “The Grand Perfection,” this tulip variety is truly a UA bloom. Originally used as a water source during the early campus years, Marr’s Spring continues to attract students to its scenic location. Located in front of Doster Hall, students can sit among some of the brightest flowers on campus. Game days on the Quad are some of our favorite days, but the falling of the leaves in late October is just another reason to love the Quad.
