As Weeks of Welcome continues into the final week, the series of fun programs aimed at introducing new students to campus culture culminates with Get On Board Day on Aug. 26-27.

Get On Board Day is a virtual fair providing students the opportunity to learn more about and join student, departmental and community-based organizations.

“Our theme this year is ‘Level Up With Involvement,’ a fun retro gaming take on things,” said Mollie Tinney, assistant director of organization engagement for the Division of Student Life.

“We’re working with a company, Hopin, a virtual conference platform, to set up Get On Board Day this year. When attendees log onto this platform they’ll be able to go in and see all the different booths at the same time. They’ll get to choose a booth and chat with representatives or sign up for more info at each one, providing lots of opportunities to engage.”

Get On Board Day will be held from 5-9 p.m. on both days.

Students will receive an email invitation to the event with a link to Hopin. Once they sign in they’ll be at the virtual fair.

“What’s exciting about using these virtual platforms is they increase the accessibility of these events for a lot of students,” Tinney said.

“We definitely want to encourage participation for the freshman class. It’s important for students to stay involved and connected during this time.

“Student organizations are more than just having fun. Students put a lot of work into them and the reason they start a student organization is because they have a passion or interest in something. They’re getting more creative in how they run them and their outreach, and that can push us in the future to be more innovative.”
