Nature Walk, Birding at the Arboretum March 6

wooden sign that says arboretumJoin Alabama Audubon for their first Gosse Nature Walk in Tuscaloosa, coming to the UA Arboretum on Friday, March 6.

The two-hour walk begins at noon, and will be led by Dr. John Friel, director of the Alabama Museum of Natural History, and Sarah Randolph, Alabama Audubon outreach and communications director. Molly Adams, founder and president of the Feminist Bird Club as well as advocacy and outreach manager for New York City Audubon, will be there as a special guest.

The 60-acre arboretum features walking trails through a native woodland section, a wildflower garden, a collection of ornamental plants, an experimental garden and a children’s garden. Expect a moderate hike with some hills, stairs and uneven terrain. On the day of the walk, wear comfortable shoes and seasonal attire, and bring water and snacks. While some binoculars will be available, you are encouraged to bring your own.

The arboretum is a part of the Alabama Birding Trails. Check on eBirfor a list of what bird species have been spotted there lately. Perhaps you can add to the list with a sighting of your own.

While the walk is free, for planning purposes, Alabama Audubon requests that you register. For more information, and to register, visit alaudubon.org/event/2020-03-06-2.
