Appointments and Elections
Dr. Gregg Bell, assistant professor of community medicine and population health, was elected to a second three-year term serving on the National Steering Committee of the Census Bureau’s State Data Center Network. The UA Institute for Rural Health Research, where Bell is a senior data analyst, is a coordinating agency for the Alabama State Data Center.
Dr. Nikaela Flournoy, a postdoctoral fellow in the Alabama Water Institute, has been selected for the 2020 Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. The fellowship is a 12-week training and educational program that hosts early career individuals at the National Academies in Washington, D.C.
Gov. Kay Ivey has appointed retired Col. Duane Lamb, associate vice president for facilities and grounds, to the USS Alabama Battleship Commission.
Honors, Awards and Recognitions
Dr. Sara Sanders, clinical faculty in the department of special education and multiple abilities, earned the CCBD Interventionist Award presented annually by the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders. This award recognizes higher education faculty with a coherent line of intervention research with school-age persons with emotional and behavioral disorders in authentic educational environments that improves the outcomes for children and youth, provides teachers, staff or guardians with additional practices, and adds to the field’s body of science.
Dr. Stephanie Anne Shelton, assistant professor of educational studies, received the 2020 American Educational Research Association’s Division D Early Career Award in Measurement and Research Methodologies for her high quality work and important contributions to the field of qualitative inquiry.
Performances and Exhibits
Jamey Grimes, instructor of art and art history, has an invited solo exhibition, “Formicarium,” at Jones-Carter Gallery, Lake City, South Carolina.
Work by Pete Schulte, associate professor of art and art history, is included in a three-person exhibition at Swan Coach House Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia. “Geo Forms: Randy Jones, Esteban Patino, Pete Schulte” is curated by art adviser and appraiser Rebecca Dimling Cochran, curator of the Wieland Collection.
Nic Tisdale, instructor in the department of art and art history, has a print included in the group invitational exhibition “Ossuary” at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design’s Frederick Layton Gallery through March 7.
Publications and Presentations
Yonathan A. Arbel, assistant professor of law, published “Reputation Failure: The Limits of Market Discipline in Consumer Markets,” 54 Wake Forest Law Review 1239-1304 (2019).
Steven H. Hobbs, Tom Bevill Chairholder of Law, published “Encore Professor: Crafting a New Story for Life After the Legal Academy,” 341 Journal of the Legal Profession 341-347 (2019).
“Twilight Passages,” a portfolio of photographs by Christopher Jordan, associate professor of art and art history, is featured in One Twelve Publishing’s February edition of Poignant Portfolios.
Dr. Doris Sung, assistant professor of art and art history, published an article on the contemporary Chinese female artist Yin Xiuzhen in Grove Art Online (Oxford Art Encyclopedia).
