Weather warning expert says many people don’t know their location

Weather preparation experts say now is the time to get ready. Dr. Laura Myers with the Center for Advanced Public Safety at The University of Alabama says her research shows people don’t know where they live on a map. She says they may know their county, but not where in the county they live or don’t know the surrounding counties. She said that information is crucial.

With the potential threat for severe weather Saturday, it is important to be prepared for the conditions. Officials often use maps as a form of warning residents when a severe weather threat is in their area. However, many people may not know where their home is located on the map. Laura Myers, the Director of the Center for Advanced Public Safety at The University of Alabama, said teaching kids how to use the map is a great way to keep families safe and informed in the instance of severe weather.
Central Pennsylvania man graduates from NASA astronaut program, eligible for space travel

A Central PA man has become a member of the first class of astronaut candidates to graduate under NASA’s Artemis program and is now eligible for spaceflight, including a potential trip to Mars. United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Bob Hines went to high school in Mountaintop, PA, but considers Harrisburg his hometown. Lt. Col. Hines also served as a developmental test pilot on all models of the F-15 while earning a master’s in aerospace engineering from the University of Alabama.

Google Pay gains support for campus IDs in the U.S.

After loyalty cards, tickets, boarding passes, and badges, Google Pay now supports campus IDs. Transact says fifteen institutions across the U.S. will deliver Transact Mobile Credential for Google Pay in the initial roll out. The schools include Arkansas State University, Chowan University, College of Coastal Georgia, Duke University, Georgetown University, Hamilton College, Johns Hopkins University, Marshall University, Mercer University, Roanoke College, St. Edward’s University, South Dakota State University, Temple University, The University of Alabama, and University of New Brunswick.
