UA EARLY COLLEGE GROWS ENROLLMENT, COURSE OFFERINGS – UA Early College began in 2009 with just 177 high school students taking courses for high school and college credit. This year, the innovative program will enroll nearly 2,000 students, with more than 80 percent from the state of Alabama. The course offerings for dual-credit have quadrupled in that span. REGISTRATION AVAILABLE FOR FREE JOB SKILLS CLASSES — Veterans and other adults, as well as teens, are encouraged to register for free job skills and financial literacy training via UA’s business school. Most classes start the second week of September and are offered at multiple sites in the Tuscaloosa area. Culverhouse LIFT, sponsored by the Culverhouse College of Business and its accounting department, includes sessions on computer skills, bookkeeping, GED classes and professional development. NEW RADIO STATION PROVIDES INFO FOR FANS, CAMPUS COMMUNITY — When Crimson Tide fans travel to Tuscaloosa this fall, they will have a new way of getting information. UA Info Radio is now broadcasting on 92.5 FM and streaming through ready.ua.edu and the UA Safety App. On football game days, UA Info Radio will provide pre- and postgame traffic updates, as well as information on parking and pregame events. When not broadcasting game day information, UA Info Radio airs information on campus events, selections from the School of Music and interesting facts about the Capstone. UA began the process of acquiring a low-power FM, non-commercial radio station to be used for public safety following the April 27, 2011, tornado. HYDRATION IS IMPERATIVE IN YOUNG ATHLETES – As young athletes around the area hit the football field for the new season, coaches and athletic trainers are busy monitoring numerous facets of practice, including the athletes’ hydration. BLOUNT SCHOLARS PROGRAM CELEBRATES 20 YEARS — The Blount Scholars Program, which was established in 1999 following a $7 million gift from former U.S. Postmaster General Winton Blount, will celebrate its 20th anniversary Sept. 13-14. Alumni from across the nation will return to campus for the celebration. The program is a selective living and learning community featuring an interdisciplinary curriculum focused on the liberal arts. It has grown in recent years, regularly enrolling more than 100 students each year.
