CURRENT COMMENT

HYDRATION IS IMPERATIVE IN YOUNG ATHLETES – As young athletes around the area hit the football field for the new season, coaches and athletic trainers are busy monitoring numerous facets of practice, including the athletes’ hydration. With the sweltering summer heat sticking around for the foreseeable future, keeping young athletes hydrated will be key in their performance on the field and overall health. “Hydration is critical for young athletes during outdoor activity,” said Dr. Deidre Leaver-Dunn, director of the athletic training program at UA. “Without proper hydration, athletes are at risk for heat illness, which can be deadly.” To arrange an interview with Leaver-Dunn, contact Bryant Welbourne, UA communications, at 205-348-8325 or bryant.welbourne@ua.edu.
