ZOMBIFIED CELLS COULD FIND THE NEXT MIRACLE DRUG THAT KEEPS US ALIVE
SyFy Wire – May 15
So far, we’ve been able to zombify everything from mammoth cells to entire pig brains, while zombie raccoons and deer are crawling in the shadows out there, but nobody has managed to create undead human cells… until now … These micro-zombies are actually cells that have had their innards replaced by magnetic nanoparticles of iron oxide — for science. Researchers at the University of Alabama pulled off this experiment, which sounds like legit horror movie fodder, to make it possible to screen natural substances for pharmaceutical properties.

Commentary: The Bigger Reason Steven Mnuchin Should Turn Over Trump’s Tax Returns
Att.net – May 14
May 14– In a recent interview, Hillary Clinton sarcastically asked for China’s help in obtaining Donald Trump’s federal income tax returns. “China, if you’re listening, why don’t you get Trump’s tax returns?” She added: “I’m sure our media would richly reward you.” In so doing, Clinton paraphrased Trump’s shoutout to the Russian government to hack Clinton’s email accounts during the 2016 presidential election (which Russia did). Alabama’s abortion bill is not about Alabama. It’s about tossing Roe v. Wade.
Danbury News Times (Connecticut) – May 14
Yes, the bill that Alabama’s Senate votes on today is intended to put an end to virtually all abortions in the state. Taking a different tack from other “heartbeat” bills we have seen recently, this one makes it a felony for a doctor to perform or attempt an abortion, and anyone who violates the law faces a sentence of up to 99 years in Alabama’s prisons. The sole exception is when the mother’s life is threatened. (Vance, a former U.S. attorney in Alabama, is a professor at the University of Alabama School of Law)

Three Email Tips to Impress the Press
Progressions – May 14
It is inbox overload in the first 60 seconds of a journalist’s workday. From follow-ups to bizarre requests, reporters are inundated with messages that most of them are not even interested in covering. Over time, their tolerance fades for wayward story pitches. (From Clermont, Florida, Michaela McLean is a senior double majoring in Dance and Public Relations at the University of Alabama.)

Fatherly – May 14
Is it ethical to post photos of your kids to social media? At least at first, anyway, most parents treat Instagram or other social media the same way previous generations did frames, scrapbooks, or carousel slide shows: as a way of capturing a fleeting moment of joy they want to remember and share with others … The University of Alabama philosophy professor emeritus literally wrote the book on ethical parenting (2010’s The Ethics of Parenthood).
