Miss Pennsylvania 2018 brings anti-bullying message to T-V elementary schools

Miss Pennsylvania Kayla Repasky enlisted the help of Mahantongo and Hegins-Hubley elementary students Tuesday to share her anti-bullying message. “My mission is to influence people to show kindness. I can’t do it alone,” she said, prompting students to raise their right hands and take a pledge. . . . Repasky is an accomplished ballet dancer. As a senior at the University of Alabama, she hopes to graduate with a Bachelor Of Science Degree in nursing, and eventually become a nurse anesthetist. She’s been awarded the Daily Point of Light Award 6292, President’s Volunteer Service Award and her efforts have been designated a Champion Organization with Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center.
Summit on Faith and Law Enforcement

The goal is to better inform faith leaders of people they can contact if they know someone struggling with something serious. Tuscaloosa county’s sheriff Ron Abernathy, Tuscaloosa police chief Steve Anderson and UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA social work students are working with the Tuscaloosa county district attorney on this faith-based community resources summit. Organizers want to make faith leaders more aware of resources available to people who need the help, in the hopes of keeping them from committing a crime or getting into trouble.

Colorado Springs’ Kevin Townsend is part of a University of Alabama student team that is continuing a three-year tradition of local outreach projects. The University of Alabama Astrobotics team and a group of engineering senior design students partnered with the RISE Center, a school for infants and preschoolers with and without special needs on UA’s campus, to provide the children with a sensory cube to assist with in-class therapy.

They’ll be receiving their college diplomas, a certification for years of studying and hard work, but they’ll also be saving a combined 132,963 plastic bottles from being buried in the ground.
Alabama EV charging station grant program could provide model for nation

The Rebuild Alabama Infrastructure Plan could provide a significant spark for efforts to expand the network of charging stations available to drivers of electric vehicles across the state. That’s because a little-noticed provision in Rebuild Alabama, approved in March to provide additional funding to improve the state’s roadways, establishes a grant program aimed at stimulating the installation of new EV charging stations in Alabama. . . . While several states offer various incentives for EV charging station infrastructure, researchers at the Alabama Transportation Institute at the University of Alabama say it appears that only one other state – Washington – has a similar grant program.
