The Center for Academic Success helps you recharge your studies and end the semester with a win.
To avoid academic burnout, break large tasks into smaller ones. If you are easily overwhelmed by the thought or look of a massive project, then deconstruct the project to tackle it in manageable pieces.
The end of the semester will be here before you know it — keep in mind test dates and due dates. Multiple items may be due at the same time. Knowing what’s due and when is essential to properly managing your time.
Be aware of how long it takes for you to complete tasks and assignments. A huge mistake in planning is not allotting the correct time needed to complete a task and becoming discouraged when you’ve run out of time.
Make a study plan, an organized schedule that outlines study time and learning goals. Schedule to study your least favorite subject first. Get the tough subject out of the way.
Identify tasks that need to be done and specify what exactly will take place as you study. Use action words such as read, write, create and memorize.
Time Management and Study Preparation
Use a planner or planner app to track deadlines and due dates for all of your classes.
Make a daily to-do list, and be sure to prioritize that list. Ask yourself, ‘What must be done?’
Know when to ask for help. Are you properly understanding what is asked of you in your assignment? Are there some concepts that you need help with understanding? Tutorial help may be key.
Does procrastination hinder you from completing homework assignments on time? Then try to complete homework assignments among other students working on similar tasks. Being in a working environment will encourage you to be task oriented also.
Set deadlines for tasks that require more energy to start. Remember, starting a task or project is the toughest step but after that initial step is taken, the rest will be easier.
Properly manage distractions. Use social media blocker apps or productivity apps to guard against the social distractions of phones and computers. Are people the distraction? Tell them your goals or tasks and ask them to help you stick to your schedule.
