UA freshman receives Congressional Bronze Medal for community service

A big honor for a freshman at the University of Alabama: 18-year-old Sara Lang received the congressional award’s bronze medal for her service to the community. Congressman Robert Aderholt presented the award to her. She’s the first person from the 4th congressional district to achieve the award.
‘Separate and Equal’ play about segregation premieres in Tuscaloosa before opening off-Broadway

University of Alabama goes off Broadway, but you can get a preview. “Separate and Equal” is a play about a hypothetical basketball game between black and white teens in segregated Birmingham in 1951. Before taking this production off Broadway in New York City, it will be presented Tuesday through Friday at 7:30 each night at the Gallaway Theatre.
Former Hoover Students To Participate in UA Co-Op Program

Three Hoover residents and current University of Alabama students will participate in a unique opportunity at the Capstone this fall. More than 250 University of Alabama students are receiving hands-on, innovative and advanced educational experience with dozens of companies and organizations across the United States through UA’s Cooperative Education Program for fall 2018.

Free classes available to community through training program
Tuscaloosa News – Aug. 28
Free community classes are available through the Culverhouse Learning Initiative and Financial Training program. Classes start on Sept. 10. Registration is available at www.culverhouse.ua.edu/lift. The classes focus on improving job marketability through training in software, including QuickBooks, Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Other courses include money management, professional development, math skills in the workplace and computers for beginners. A list of classes is on the website, along with online registration. Interested parties can also email lift@cba.ua.edu or call 205-928-8258. Classes are taught in small groups by trained UA students and graduate students.
