UA Student Named Golfweek Player of the Year

The University of Alabama’s Lauren Stephenson is the 2017-18 Golfweek Player of the Year for women’s collegiate golf, the magazine announced. Stephenson is the first UA player to receive the honor in the 20-year history of the award.

The recognition is the second national award for the Lexington, South Carolina, native. In May, she won the Golfstat Cup, presented annually to the women’s collegiate golfer with the best scoring average. Stephenson’s 69.76 average is a school record and the lowest in the 20-year history of the award. She tied for seventh at the NCAA Championships and was a member of the U.S. squad that won the Curtis Cup.
