Hard-hat areas, construction fences and cranes have become staples across The University of Alabama campus as UA strives to provide the best academic, residential and athletic facilities for students, faculty and staff.
As the academic year comes to an end, here are a few updates on several renovation and construction projects happening around campus.
- Lakeside Dining Hall – Renovations to Lakeside Dining Hall started in March. The building’s renovations are currently 40 percent complete. The dining hall will reopen in August as students return for the fall semester.
- New freshman residence hall – A new freshman residence hall located near Lakeside is 70 percent complete. The new hall will house about 500 students and include a multipurpose event space and storm shelter. The new residence hall will open in August.
- Tutwiler Parking Deck – The new parking deck located behind Tutwiler Hall is also 70 percent through the building phase and is scheduled to open by the beginning of the fall semester.
- H.M. Comer Hall – Renovations to H.M. Comer Hall are 75 percent complete. Finish work on the second and third floors started this month and it too will open in August.
- Mal Moore Dining Facility – The new dining facility at the Mal M. Moore Athletic Facility is currently 80 percent complete. Installation of tile flooring and other finishes are ongoing.
- New women’s residence hall – A new women’s residence hall that will be located beside Tutwiler Hall is halfway through the design phase and will be submitted to the UA Board of Trustees in the coming months.
- Aquatic Center – Renovations to the Aquatic Center were recently approved by the UA Board of Trustees. The $21 million project is currently in the design phase.
