Checklist for a Successful New Academic Year

Checklist for a Successful New Academic Year

Start strong in 2017-2018 by checking off the following items from your to-do list. They will help you stay protected, connected and healthy as you embrace the new year.

Things you can do from your myBama account

Activate DUO, a two-factor authentication that adds a second layer of security to your myBama account. The two factors include something you know (your username and password) and something you have (a phone or passcode) to authenticate and gain access to an account.

Update your contact information. Have you had a name change, moved offices, or gotten a new email address? You are the person responsible for updating your information.

And, while you are updating your contact information, make sure you sign up for UA Alerts. In case of severe weather or other emergency, UA Alerts can simultaneously deploy text messages, emails and phone calls to your cellphone and home phone.

The WellBAMA portal is below the icon on the myBama employee page.

Register for your parking permit. Faculty and staff permits are valid Aug. 16, 2017, through Aug. 15, 2018. More information

Sign up for WellBAMA. The University’s signature wellness program for faculty and staff will pay you to take care of your health. The first year you can earn $25 in WellBAMA rewards just for participating in health screenings, group sessions and qualifying programs.

You can even do a FitBit challenge.

Things you can do from your phone

Download the UA mobile app to gain instant access to the campus directory, map, news, WellBAMA, Crimson Ride schedules and much more.

Download the UA safety app. It provides immediate access to information in case of an emergency. Features include a built-in GPS to every campus building and shelter locations, AEDs and safety guidelines for potential hazards.

Users also receive exclusive UA Alerts and current UAPD advisories for up-to-date information. Additional features include National Weather Service Information for Tuscaloosa County and an emergency contact list for instant dialing with one push.

Start following UA on social media: Facebook, YoutubeTwitter, Vimeo, Instagram.

Things you have to get up for

If your last UA photograph looks like this, it’s time to get a new head shot made.

Get in some of your daily Fitbit steps by walking over to G5 Rose Administration Building, where the photography department is offering free studio headshots for faculty and staff two days a month. No appointment is required. Just show up on the first Monday or second Tuesday of each month between 8 a.m. and 4:45 p.m.

Get your flu shot. Starting in September, free flu shots will be given at locations across campus, and at the University Medical Center. Check the faculty/staff channel of the UA News Center in the coming weeks for dates and locations.
