ANNOUNCEMENTS

As part of ensuring the health and well-being of UA students, faculty, staff and visitors, The University of Alabama became smoke-free effective Jan. 1. The Student Health Center, the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness, and the College of Community Health Sciences/University Medical Center are offering assistance to individuals who want to stop smoking. Links to these resources can be found on the Smoke-Free Campus website at http://www.ua.edu/smokefree.

Weather permitting, the University will test UA Alerts, the emergency public address system and digital signage at 11:55 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month. The test will last approximately 30 seconds and should not be disruptive. Immediately following at noon, the Tuscaloosa Emergency Management Agency will test the outdoor tornado sirens, weather permitting.

Students should update their contact information on myBama to ensure they receive the UA Alerts messages. Students who currently receive the alerts but would prefer to be contacted differently will need to revise their contact information. To view and make changes to information online, students can click here.

Colonial Drive from Eighth Street to Bryant Drive is closed for construction and utility installation through Jan. 15. Directional signage will be in place for vehicular traffic.

Faculty, staff and students should remember to Stay on Your Side when walking, driving or biking across campus. The ongoing safety campaign reminds the campus community to use crosswalks, sidewalks and streets appropriately. Doing so keeps traffic flowing and ensures traveler safety.

The University of Alabama’s 24-hour hazing and harassment hotline at 205-348-HALT (4258) allows students, parents or others to report incidents of discrimination, harassment, hazing or any kind of unhealthy behavior. An individual calling the hotline can leave a confidential message with the Office of the Dean of Students. Callers to the hotline are anonymous. Callers are asked to include as much detailed information as possible. For more information, contact the Office of the Dean of Students at 348-3326 or visit http://hazing.ua.edu.

Also visit the UAct website at http://www.ua.edu/uact for additional reporting channels and detailed information on how the University community is working together to provide a safe environment for students, employees and campus visitors.
