CECE WINANS TO HEADLINE REALIZING THE DREAM CONCERT – Gospel singer CeCe Winans is the featured artist for the 2015 Realizing the Dream Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Moody Music Concert Hall on The University of Alabama campus. STUDENTS TO FACE OFF AGAINST SEASONED ENTREPRENEURS – A start-up team comprised of only UA students will compete against seasoned entrepreneurs in the first round of the 2015 Alabama Launchpad Competition Jan. 23. The student team, known as Conductive Chemistry, is touting a new, UA-developed material as a cheaper alternative to the precious metal platinum. Platinum, used in many products including fuel cells and solar cells, is expensive and its supply is limited. The new material, known as NanoCOT, is based on technology developed by other UA researchers. Watch for an upcoming news release with more details. ECONOMIC OUTLOOK CONFERENCE THIS WEEK – UA’s Culverhouse College of Commerce holds its 27th annual Economic Outlook Conference Thursday, Jan. 15 in Montgomery. The conference starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa’s convention center. Speakers will offer an analysis of what’s ahead for Alabama as well as the U.S. economy. David Altig, executive vice president and director of research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, and Ahmad Ijaz, CBER’s associate director and director of economic forecasting, will discuss the U.S. and Alabama outlooks. Ira Harvey, executive assistant to UA’s vice president for financial affairs, and Dr. Samuel Addy, CBER director and associate dean for research and outreach at UA’s Culverhouse College of Commerce, will discuss the state’s tax revenue issues. Jo Bonner, vice chancellor for government relations and economic development for the UA System, will discuss Alabama’s economic development.
