ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Office of Information Technology cautions students to be aware of the following commercial website: www.getstudyroom.com. The site appears to be capturing myBama usernames and passwords. OIT has no reason to believe that any systems have been compromised at this time; however, OIT urges anyone who has used the service to immediately change their myBama passwords. Visit here to change myBama passwords. Students should remember to never share their myBama credentials with anyone or provide this information to any website, email request or service not associated with The University of Alabama. Doing so could compromise their myBama accounts. Students who receive phishing emails should forward the emails to itservicedesk@ua.edu or contact the IT Service Desk at 348-5555 for additional assistance.

Weather permitting, the University will test UA Alerts, the emergency public address system and digital signage at 11:55 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month. The next test is scheduled for Oct. 1. The test will last approximately 30 seconds and should not be disruptive. Immediately following at noon, the Tuscaloosa Emergency Management Agency will test the outdoor tornado sirens, weather permitting.

Students should update their contact information on myBama to ensure they receive the UA Alerts messages. Students who currently receive the alerts but would prefer to be contacted differently will need to revise their contact information. To view and make changes to information online, students can click here.

The entrance at the four-way stop in the Law Center West Lot is closed through Oct. 17. The northbound lane of Coliseum Drive will be closed to traffic and parking today through Oct. 10. Visit http://roadclosures.ua.edu to search for campus closures.

The University Supply Store is conducting its annual inventory. Locations at Tutwiler Hall, the Bryant Museum and the Law Center are closed through Thursday, Oct. 2. The Ferguson Center location will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 1-Thursday, Oct. 2. All locations will reopen Friday, Oct. 3, assuming no recounts are required.

The College of Community Health Sciences is leading a vaccination campaign to protect employees and students against the flu. Nurses from the University Medical Center, the Student Health Center and the Capstone College of Nursing will travel to sites across campus during September, October and November to provide the flu shots. WellBama is also participating in the campaign. The shots are provided at no charge, and insurance is not required. Students and employees are asked to bring their campuswide identification number, or CWID, with them to the shot stations. Click here for complete details on the campaign, including dates and locations.

The Center for Sustainable Service and Volunteerism has launched a new blog. Daily posts focus on the work being done by students as they take part in meaningful service and enact measurable changes in the community. To view the new blog, visit http://uacssv.wordpress.com.

UA campus dining halls no longer use polystyrene containers. This sustainability measure keeps approximately 1,500 pounds of waste from landfills each week. Dining-hall customers who wish to use a to-go option may purchase a reusable container. More information: http://fawp.ua.edu/bamadining/foam-free-dining-halls.

CAREER AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Beyond Bama Alternative Break program is accepting applications from students interested in spending their breaks traveling and making a meaningful difference in a community. The application deadline for the winter break with Habitat for Humanity is Thursday, Oct. 2. More information: http://volunteer.ua.edu/alternative.cfm.

ATHLETICS/RECREATION

UA students who like to tweet can help The University of Alabama win $10,000 in scholarships each week during the regular football season. To participate, Bama fans should send a tweet using both the following hashtags: #ItsGood2Be and #builtbybama. Each week through Dec. 7, the school with the most fan conversation on Twitter will receive an additional $10,000 in scholarship donations. For 10 years, Allstate has contributed to scholarship funds at partner colleges and universities through its Good Hands Field Goal Net Program. At any point in the season, fans can see and track which schools are receiving the most engagement by checking out the #ItsGood2Be leader board, where the winning schools will be announced each week.

STUDENT AFFAIRS

All students are invited to the final installment of Get On Board LEAD Date: An Involvement Speed Dating Event, where leaders of student organizations and students interested in becoming members will sit down and discuss organization missions, visions and goals. The event will happen Thursday, Oct. 2, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Ferguson Center ballroom. More information: Rosalind Moore at rlmoore@sa.ua.edu or 348-6114.
