TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Brenna Horrocks, a 2014 University of Alabama graduate majoring in advertising, was named the 2014 Student of the Year by the Birmingham chapter of the American Advertising Federation.

Horrocks, from Logan, Utah, said she gained valuable experience at UA, working on advertising campaigns for companies like Warby Parker Eyewear and Con-Tact Brand contact paper. She said Dr. Glenn Griffin, associate professor of advertising, helped her realize what it meant to be passionate about her career choice.

“Dr. Griffin has been an outstanding mentor over the last year,” Horrocks said. “He’s shown me the importance of creating work that goes beyond obligation, and his guidance has played an important role in my growth as a writer.”

Griffin, who nominated Horrocks for the award, said she was a “remarkable” student.

“Her creative work was selected for and exhibited in an international show in New York, she won the student ‘Best of Show’ award in the local ADDY awards, had her work published in a refereed creative writing journal and maintained an excellent GPA all the while,” Griffin said. “She’s extremely talented and respected by her peers, and I’m told she was chosen unanimously by the AAF Birmingham judges.”
