New dean of University of Alabama School of Social Work named

The University of Alabama School of Social Work has tapped Vikki Vandiver, currently an associate dean at Portland State University, to head the School of Social Work. According to a UA press release, Vandiver’s appointment will begin July 15. In addition to her work at PSU’s School of Social Work, Vandiver serves on the board of three editorial journals and previously served as a mental health therapist. Vandiver received her undergraduate education at the University of Houston before going on to earn her Doctor of Public Health from the University of Texas. “I am honored and proud to be joining one of the nation’s top schools of social work housed in a major research university,” Vandiver said. “In particular, I was drawn to the school’s world-class faculty, dedicated staff, innovative curriculum and cutting edge scholarship and research. Both the School of Social Work and The University of Alabama are recognized regionally and nationally for their standards of academic excellence, innovation and dedication to student success.”
