University of Alabama School of Law taps Vanderbilt professor, UA alumnus to become dean

After a 10-month search to find a leader for the School of Law at the University of Alabama, UA’s interim provost Joe Benson has named Mark E. Brandon, a professor at Vanderbilt University, as the school’s new dean. According to a press release distributed Tuesday afternoon, Brandon will succeed interim dean William Brewbaker, who has led the school since July 2013. Brandon, a University of Alabama alumnus, has taught classes at Vanderbilt since 2001, and has used his expertise in constitutional law in academia and both private and public practice. “Dr. Brandon has gained a wealth of experience from many of the top universities in our nation, and we’re pleased to welcome him back to lead The University of Alabama School of Law,” Benson said in the release. “He has a remarkable vision and outstanding leadership qualities honed over his 30-plus years of service. We look forward to the new heights our law school faculty, staff and students will attain with his guidance.”

Tuscaloosa City Council approves 10th Avenue City Walk Project
WVUA (Tuscaloosa) – May 13
The Tuscaloosa City Council is making moves tonight to improve an area of our city that was affected by the April 27, 2011 tornado. The council approved to begin authorizing the construction of the 10th Avenue City Walk Project. In this project, the city hopes to rebuild the damaged infrastructure on 10th Avenue from Greensboro Avenue to Hargrove Road. While also updating the streets storm drainage system and adding a shared pedestrian, bicycle walk way. Mayor Walt Maddox says the project is still far from being completed but hopes to start construction by 2015.
