UA Culverhouse Student from Mobile Receives Austin Cup Award

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Culverhouse College of Commerce’s highest student honor, the Austin Cup, was recently awarded to  Lauren Blight, a UA senior from Mobile.

The award was presented to Blight as part of The University of Alabama’s Honors Week.

A double-major in economics and math with a 4.0 Grade Point Average, Blight will graduate in May with both a Bachelor of Science degree as well as a Master of Arts  in economics. She is also a member of the University Scholars program.

She received a Presidential Scholarship to attend The University and she has been recognized on the Presidents List for each of the past seven semesters.

“This is the highest honor presented each year to a Culverhouse student,” said Dr. J. Michael Hardin, dean of the Culverhouse College of Commerce said. “I congratulate Ms. Blight on this great academic achievement and wish her continued success in her career. We are honored that she chose The University of Alabama and Culverhouse for her education.”

Blight has numerous academic honors and has served as a mentor, teaching assistant and volunteer for community projects.

Upon graduation, she will begin her career with dunnhumbyUSA, a global company that builds customer loyalty for businesses.

“We believe that Ms. Blight is an exemplary student-scholar, one who is also actively and deeply engaged with the greater Tuscaloosa community,” wrote Dr. Matt Holt, department head of economics, finance & legal studies, in his nomination of Blight. “We enthusiastically support her as our candidate for this year’s Austin Cup award.”
