SAFETY

Weather permitting, the University will test UA Alerts, the emergency public address system and digital signage at 11:55 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month. The test will last approximately 30 seconds and should not be disruptive. Immediately following at noon, the Tuscaloosa Emergency Management Agency will test the outdoor tornado sirens, weather permitting.

Students should update their contact information on myBama to ensure they receive the UA Alerts messages. Students who currently receive the alerts but would prefer to be contacted differently will need to revise their contact information. To view and make changes to information online, students can click here.

The University of Alabama’s 24-hour hazing and harassment hotline at 205-348-HALT (4258) allows students, parents or others to report incidents of discrimination, harassment, hazing or any kind of unhealthy behavior. An individual calling the hotline can leave a confidential message with the Office of the Dean of Students. Callers to the hotline are anonymous. ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Student Health Center and Pharmacy will be closed all day on Saturday, March 8. The center’s electronic medical record will be undergoing a major upgrade and medical records will not be accessible during that time. The Student Health Center and Pharmacy will reopen on Sunday, March 9, at 1 p.m.

The Faculty Senate Task Force for Excellence in Equity, Inclusion and Citizenship, or TEEIC, will hold its first open forum today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in 140 Moody Music Building. Discussion will focus on campus and Greek diversity, student citizenship and the 2014 municipal school board elections. The forum is open to the public. In addition, the task force has produced a report focused on potential areas for Student Government Association election reform. As of March 1, several offices at the Ferguson Center have moved, or are in the process of moving, to temporary locations due to construction and renovation of the building. The third floor of the Ferguson Center will soon be closed. The Ferguson Theater, Credit Union, Art Gallery, Crimson Copies and all food services will remain open on the second floor until May 1. On the ground level, the University Supply Store, Starbucks and the Mail Center will remain open throughout construction. Expected completion and opening of the new building is August.

The city of Tuscaloosa will host a half marathon on Saturday, March 8. The race will start at 8 a.m. at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater and proceed for 13.1 miles. Four miles of the route are on UA’s campus. Employees and students can review the route at http://tuscaloosahalfmarathon.org/map.html and make travel plans accordingly.

An electrical outage will occur at the Law Center on Saturday, March 8, from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and at Tutwiler Hall on March 22 from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to perform repairs. Contact Ricky Luker at rluker@fa.ua.edu or 348-3961 with any concerns.

The University of Alabama is providing a free service to faculty, staff and students to make collaborating on group projects less problematic. Box for UA allows team members to centralize and track any particular document online. All content will be housed in one space that can be accessed from users’ desktops or mobile devices. Gorgas Library will remain open on Friday and Saturday evenings until 9 p.m. through April 19 as a pilot project. The music library and the Sanford Media Center located in the building will not be open late hours during this period. Gorgas will not be open late hours during spring break. The Division of Community Affairs, through its Center for Community-Based Partnerships, is accepting nominations for the 2014 Excellence in Engaged Scholarship Awards, as well as requesting proposals in response to the seed-funding RFP, and accepting proposals for poster presentations to recognize the best in community-engaged scholarship. Interested faculty, staff, students and community partners are encouraged to submit nominations and applications. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

UA Relay For Life invites students to form teams to honor cancer survivors, remember those who lost their lives to cancer and support those who are fighting the disease. The UA Relay for Life event will be held April 25 at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium. Students can sign up at http://www.relayforlife.org.

EVENTS

Today at 3:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Ferguson Center, the SOURCE will host an interest meeting to talk about the selection process for the 2014 SOURCE board of directors. The SOURCE is the provider of resources, support and recognitions for student organizations at UA.

The 2014 Joint Doctor of Nursing Practice Intensive for students, alumni and faculty of The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama at Birmingham and The University of Alabama in Huntsville takes place March 5-7 on the UA campus at the Capstone College of Nursing and the Bryant Conference Center. The intensive provides students pursuing the DNP degree with the opportunity to explore issues in nursing and examine evidence-based projects developed by students on all three campuses. This year’s event, titled “Trailblazers: DNP’s Seizing Leadership Opportunities,” features presentations from nationally known nursing leaders, program alumni and faculty members. The Alabama Panhellenic Association will host Panhellenic Preview Day Saturday, March 8, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the North and South Zones of Bryant-Denny Stadium. High school seniors and current college students who are interested in joining a sorority at The University of Alabama are invited to attend the free event. Panhellenic Preview Day is an opportunity for prospective members to experience sorority life at The University of Alabama. Students who are unable to attend Panhellenic Preview Day but are interested in participating in recruitment or events hosted by individual sororities in the spring can click here to complete an online application.

Join Blend on Monday, March 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in 205 Gorgas Library for the chance to “Friend and Blend” on campus. After a quick “Getting to Know You” activity to start, participants will discuss on how to bring UA’s diverse student body together. Refreshments will be provided.
