On Sunday, Nov. 24, at 6 p.m., the heat will be turned off in the Ferguson Center in order to install a new boiler. The installation is expected to be complete on or before Dec. 1. If colder weather is predicted during Nov. 25-27, project contractors will provide temporary heat in the building. A complete utility outage is scheduled for the Ferguson Center Nov. 28 through Dec. 1. No power, heating, air or water will be available in the building. UA classes will be dismissed on Nov. 27; however, the University will operate regular business hours. UA will cease regular operations Nov. 28-Dec. 1 for Thanksgiving. Classes will resume Dec. 2.
The University of Alabama will host the Alabama state high school football championships at Bryant-Denny Stadium Dec. 5-6. The event will affect parking and traffic on campus. Certain parking lots near the stadium will close; other lots will have restricted access. Colonial Drive and Wallace Wade Avenue will be closed both days. All Crimson Ride routes, except the gold route, will be rerouted; riders should expect delays. Beginning Nov. 22, the University community will see a new design for the login page of myBama, Qualtrics, DegreeWorks and other Central Authentication Portals. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The “Got Meals?” meal-donation program allows UA students the opportunity to apply for a meal allotment in times of need. Students may donate one meal swipe to a student in need at http://bamacares.ua.edu/gotmeals.cfm. Students may also apply for meals at the link. Students can donate meals to feed local hungry families through the Swipe Away Hunger event. Students can donate their Bama Dining meals from now until Nov. 25. All donated meals will be collected Nov. 27 and delivered to the East Tuscaloosa Community Soup Bowl. The meals will be used to feed more than 300 people in a special Thanksgiving lunch. Students can donate or volunteer to help coordinate the event. Students are invited to a free showing of “The Internship” today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ferguson Center Theater. Free food will be available. The comedy stars Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson as two salesmen competing at a coveted internship at Google.
UA will observe the Great American Smokeout through various campus activities. A commemorative exhibition and a film will be available for viewing Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Gorgas Library in Room 205 and the Pearce Foyer. The Great American Smokeout occurs on Thursday, Nov. 21. Everyone is invited to come to the Quad in front of Gorgas Library from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to receive information on quitting smoking. Other tools, resources and prizes will be offered. Eta Sigma Gamma’s Delta Xi chapter is sponsoring a “flash mob” event to raise awareness about the dangers of secondhand smoke. On Nov. 21, between 12:15 p.m. and 12:30 p.m., about 135 students will converge on the Quad near Denny Chimes and simultaneously drop to the ground, falling “dead,” representing the number of people who die every day in the United States from exposure to secondhand smoke.

Students are invited to the Japanese Fall Festival, Aki Matsuri, on Friday, Nov. 22, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Ferguson Center ballroom. Students can learn about Aikido techniques, traditional Japanese dancing, calligraphy and taiko drums. Attendees will enjoy Japanese cuisine, a tea ceremony and a taiko drum performance and engage in fun activities, such as Japanese games and face painting.
Sigma Delta Tau sorority will host a Thanksgiving potluck dinner for all females who are interested in joining the sorority. GAME-DAY WEEK
Know how to “Get in the Game.” The Crimson Tide football team will face the Chattanooga Mocs at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game will be televised on Pay-Per-View. Whether you currently have tickets or need tickets, you will want to know how to “Get in the Game,” how the changes to the way student tickets are handled affects you, how to enter the stadium (Gate 30 or 31) and how parking near the stadium affects you. - Parking Reminder — On game-day weekends during football season, many parking lots are used for Tide Pride and game-day parking. The following lots and areas must be vacated by 5 p.m. on Fridays of all home games: Colonial Drive south of Eighth Street, the south one-third section of the Coleman Coliseum lot, the Tutwiler main lot and “triangle” lot, the lower Student Recreation Center lot, the Northeast Campus Drive lot and the large lot east of the Moody Music Building. Re-entry to all faculty and staff lots, with the exception of the Ferguson deck, will be restricted after 5 p.m. on game-day Fridays. Click here for a map that shows the parking-lot closures.
- Prohibited Items — Bryant-Denny Stadium and all other Alabama athletics facilities prohibit the following items:

- Tailgating Reminder — Tailgating is an important part of every football season, especially on the Quad. Following campus policy for tailgating helps to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable experience. Friday is a regular academic day at UA, and classes are still in session until 6 p.m.; therefore, reserving areas for personal tailgates on the Quad is not permitted until after 6 p.m. on Fridays prior to home games. Reserving all other campus areas is not permitted until after 5 p.m. on Thursday evenings prior to home games. The only areas that are permitted to be reserved prior to these times are those that have been approved in advance through the campus grounds-use permit process. - Radio and Television — Click here for a list of radio stations that will broadcast the football game. Students who will not be in Tuscaloosa on game day can click here for alternative locations to view the game.
- Taxis — The city of Tuscaloosa has established a game-day zone for taxis close to Bryant-Denny Stadium in the Strip area. Taxis will be located on University Boulevard between Red Drew Avenue (14th Avenue) and Campus Drive (12th Avenue) and will be monitored by the Tuscaloosa Police Department. “Taxi Only” signs and yellow cones will block the spaces from other vehicles. Taxis will be located in this area after the football game until the following morning. People who need a taxi should look for the signs and wait in the taxi-only area for the next available taxi.
