The University of Alabama’s 24-hour HALT hotline allows students, parents or others to report incidents of discrimination, harassment, hazing or any kind of unhealthy behavior. An individual calling the hotline can leave a confidential message with the Office of the Dean of Students. Callers to the hotline are anonymous. ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Riverside Community pedestrian bridge will be closed Oct. 31-Nov. 3.

The Student Government Association and the Office of the Dean of Students will host a service at Denny Chimes on Oct. 28 from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to honor the memory of the following students: William “Will” Blake Carroll, John Augustine D’Alessandro, Brooke Moncheire Jackson, Tillman Haskell Merritt and Capt. Mark Tyler Voss, USAF. Friends, family and the University community are invited to gather on the Quad around the Denny Chimes. Rain location will be on the front steps of Gorgas Library.

By Oct. 15 of each year, each coeducational institution of higher education that participates in any federal student aid program and has an intercollegiate athletic program must prepare an Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act report and make it available upon request to students, potential students and the public. The University of Alabama Department of Athletics’ report for the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act is available upon request at the following locations: Office of Intercollegiate Athletics and Office of University Relations. The report can be accessed on the Internet at https://eada.ia.ua.edu. A paper copy of the report will be provided upon request by contacting the Office of University Relations.

The Higher Education Act of 1965 requires institutions to make certain information available to the campus community and general public. The University has established a website, http://www.ua.edu/academic/hea, to compile and disclose in one location pertinent information related to the HEA’s requirements. UA students, faculty and staff are encouraged to visit the “Through the Doors” website and contribute their memories and experiences on the Your Stories page under the “Perspectives” link. The Through the Doors website is devoted to the 50th anniversary of UA’s desegregation and also serves as a source of historical information, beginning with Autherine Lucy’s attempt to enroll at UA as the first African-American student in 1956.

SAS 9.4 is now available for download through the University’s enterprise agreement. SAS 9.4 is a limited release for 64-bit operating systems only. Users may continue to use SAS 9.3. UA students who have Turning Technologies clickers may need to update their firmware for the devices to work properly. Students can do the update themselves by clicking here and following the instructions in the tutorial. Students can have their clickers updated at the University Supply Store locations in the Ferguson Center and in Tutwiler Hall, as well as in Gorgas and Rodgers libraries, and at the Faculty Resource Center in A-203 Gordon Palmer Hall. GREEK AFFAIRS

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Community Service Center is sponsoring Schoolhouse Service Stand, a volunteer service project in honor of the 50th anniversary of the “Stand at the Schoolhouse Door.”
The event will take place Oct. 27 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Students will participate in community service projects, followed by reflection and refreshments back on campus, then close with a walk to Foster Auditorium. The UA Community Service Center hosts Alternative Break trips throughout the year for students who would like to volunteer in either the United States or abroad. Nov. 1 is the application deadline for the winter international trip to Costa Rica (Dec. 14-20) and the winter domestic trip to work with Habitat for Humanity in Lee County, Ala., (Dec. 14-17). ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Fall Break for students will be Oct. 31-Nov. 1. No classes will be held.

Students are invited to pick up an Academic Scavenger Hunt passport in the Student Government Association office, the Writing Center or any of the libraries on campus. Students should fill out the passport and return it to the SGA office on the second floor of the Ferguson Center by Nov. 11 to be entered into a drawing to win prizes. Graduate Students are invited to submit abstracts for the 2014 Alabama Modern Languages Conference. The conference will take place Feb. 7-8, 2014. Graduate students in any discipline are invited to present 20-minute papers in English, Spanish, French or German relating to the theme of “Converging Cultures: Languages, Literatures, and Identity.” The deadline for abstract submission is Nov. 15. EVENTS

UA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will host its annual Halloween Extravaganza on Oct. 28 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the indoor football facility. The University of Alabama’s Panhellenic Association will host the annual Sorority Row Trick-or-Treat Oct. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. Children from the Tuscaloosa area, ages 12 and younger, are invited to dress up in Halloween costumes and visit the lawns of the campus sorority houses on Magnolia and Colonial drives for candy and activities. The community is invited to experience some of the legends that have been passed down from generation to generation during the third annual Haunting at the Museum from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 29. Sponsored by UA’s Alabama Museum of Natural History, the free event is open to all ages and features guided, candlelit ghost walks around the Quad, followed by children’s activities, a scavenger hunt and ghost stories at the museum, which is located in Smith Hall. FOOTBALL GAME-DAY

Know how to “Get in the Game.” The Crimson Tide football team will face the Tennessee Volunteers at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game will be televised on CBS. Whether you currently have tickets or need tickets, you will want to know how to “Get in the Game,” how the changes to the way student tickets are handled affects you, how to enter the stadium (Gate 30 or 31) and how parking near the stadium affects you.   • Parking Reminder — On game-day weekends during football season, many parking lots are used for Tide Pride and game-day parking. The following lots and areas must be vacated by 5 p.m. on Fridays of all home games: Colonial Drive south of Eighth Street, the south one-third section of the Coleman Coliseum lot, the Tutwiler main lot and “triangle” lot, the lower Student Recreation Center lot, the Northeast Campus Drive lot and the large lot east of the Moody Music Building. Re-entry to all faculty and staff lots, with the exception of the Ferguson deck, will be restricted after 5 p.m. on game-day Fridays. Click here for a map that shows the parking-lot closures.
  • Tailgating Reminder — Tailgating is an important part of every football season, especially on the Quad. Following campus policy for tailgating helps to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable experience. Friday is a regular academic day at UA, and classes are still in session until 6 p.m.; therefore, reserving areas for personal tailgates on the Quad is not permitted until after 6 p.m. on Fridays prior to home games. Reserving all other campus areas is not permitted until after 5 p.m. on Thursday evenings prior to home games. The only areas that are permitted to be reserved prior to these times are those that have been approved in advance through the campus grounds-use permit process.   • Bring your friends and join University Programs and UA Health and Wellness for a tailgate on the Quad for the Alabama vs. Tennessee game. STUDENT SUPPORT

The Women’s Resource Center provides a full range of services to students, faculty, staff and their families who are victims of dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual harassment, stalking or childhood abuse. To make an appointment, schedule a program, register for self-defense training or volunteer, contact the WRC at 348-5040. To contact a victim advocate after hours or on the weekends, call the University of Alabama Police Department at 348-5454 and ask to be connected with the on-call WRC victim advocate.   • Breast Cancer Awareness, October (The UA community is invited to place messages and pink ribbon ornaments on honor and remembrance trees located at the Capstone Village, Ferguson Center, Student Recreation Center and University Medical Center.)
  • Domestic Violence Awareness Month, October (Campus and community members are asked to raise awareness of dating and domestic violence by wearing purple ribbons and to drop off used cellular phones and accessories at the Women’s Resource Center, Dean of Students’ office and campus residential communities.)
