SAFETY

Each year, The University of Alabama publishes the UA annual Campus Security Report, which contains crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years. The report also details UA security policies and procedures. The Campus Security Report is provided in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and will be available Oct. 1 to view or print online at safety.ua.edu. The Alabama Department of Public Safety, a state agency, also provides an online listing of sex offenders currently registered with the state. This listing is available on the Alabama Department of Public Safety website at www.dps.alabama.gov. (Click on the “Community Information Center” link). For information regarding the enrollment or employment of registered sex offenders at The University of Alabama or to request a printed copy of the Campus Security Report, write University Police, Attention: Community Services Division, Box 870180, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0180; or send an email to University Police at ua.police@ua.edu.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Kaplan Test Prep will host free GRE, MCAT and LSAT practice tests for UA students in Lloyd Hall on Oct. 12. For students who are unable to take one of the practice tests on Oct. 12, Kaplan will also offer free practice tests online through the end of October for the GRE, MCAT, LSAT, GMAT, DAT, OAT and PCAT. HOMECOMING

UA’s “Leaving a Crimson Legacy” homecoming is underway and will conclude Saturday, Oct. 5, with the Crimson Tide’s football game against the Georgia State Panthers at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The annual pep rally and bonfire will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, on the Quad. The homecoming parade begins at 7 a.m. on Saturday, taking place entirely on University Boulevard from Second Avenue to 19th Avenue. Click here for more information about the week’s activities.

ATHLETICS/RECREATION

Know how to “Get in the Game.” The Crimson Tide football team will face the Georgia State Panthers at 11:21 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game will be televised on SEC TV. Whether you currently have tickets or need tickets, you will want to know how to “Get in the Game,” how the changes to the way student tickets are handled affects you, how to enter the stadium (Gate 30 or 31) and how parking near the stadium affects you. ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

All UA students are invited to participate in the 2013 Culverhouse Business Concept Pitch. Prizes are $500 for first place, $250 for second place and $100 for third place. Prizewinners will also receive mentoring from successful entrepreneurs to help bring their ideas to life. The deadline to enter the competition is Oct. 11 at 11:59 p.m. The top 15 pitches will be announced Oct. 24 and be presented live to a panel of judges at 6 p.m. on Nov. 14. STUDENT AFFAIRS

UA sophomores, juniors and seniors are invited to apply to be a part of Leadership UA. The goal of the program is to develop effective and ethical leaders at The University of Alabama who are prepared to be global leaders in a variety of fields. STUDENT SUPPORT

UA has several resources for students who may need assistance handling any stresses and challenges they encounter during their years on campus. The Counseling Center provides counseling, outreach programming and consultation services to all enrolled students. The Student Health Center and University Medical Center provide medical and psychiatric services for students. The University of Alabama Writing Center has resumed walk-in hours in Gorgas Library, Monday–Thursday, 7–9 p.m. Writing Center staff will be available in the Java City seating area to assist students in developing writing skills necessary for academic success. The center also operates an appointment-only service in 332 Lloyd Hall, Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Services are available for the fall semester at both locations through Dec. 6.

EVENTS

Be the Match on Campus will host a bone-marrow-registry drive Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ferguson Center Theater. Students can also earn community-service hours by volunteering to work at the drive. More information: Caitlin Roach at croach1@crimson.ua.edu.

“Late Night Series: Minute Mania” will take place Oct 8, 7-9 p.m., in the community room on the seventh floor of Presidential Village. This event is for all UA students and is a spinoff of the game show “Minute to Win It.” Contestants will have 60 seconds to complete a series of trivia questions and games. UA’s Moundville Native American Festival will be held Oct. 9-12 at Moundville Archaeological Park. Through storytelling, a variety of arts and crafts demonstrations, living history enactments and musical performances, the park’s annual Native American Festival brings to life the Southeastern Indian culture, a culture that is markedly different from the tribes found elsewhere in the Americas. Project Green Challenge is a 30-day eco-lifestyle challenge from Oct. 1-30. “Three Days at Foster: How Integration Turned the Tide,” a documentary on the integration of UA athletics, will be shown Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Theater. Keith Dunnavant, noted sports author and director of the film, will introduce the film and answer questions at the film’s conclusion. The event is sponsored by The University of Alabama National Alumni Association, the College of Continuing Studies and the Division of Community Affairs. Alpha Chi Omega’s “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” relay race to raise awareness of domestic violence will be held Oct. 22 at the corner of Bryant Drive and Colonial Drive. Music and dinner will be provided. Cost is $10 to participate in the event and $1 to attend. Sign-in is 4:30 p.m. on the day of the race.
