Evening at Zoe’s Kitchen to Benefit UA’s Books for the Black Belt

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Center for Economic Development is sponsoring a fundraiser to support the Books for the Black Belt program.

The event will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Zoe’s Kitchen inside Bryant-Denny Stadium on the UA campus.

During those hours, Zoe’s Kitchen will donate 15 percent of its proceeds to the program, which funds educational materials for public-school children in the 12 counties of Alabama’s Black Belt. Patrons should mention “Books for the Black Belt” when ordering.

The event is open to people inside and outside the UA community. Organizers will place collection bins for children’s and young-adult book at the restaurant. Sorority members on campus will receive one Panhellenic point for participating.

Started in 1987, the UA Center for Economic Development provides community-based strategic planning in support of local economic development efforts, primarily in the economically distressed parts of the state. The center’s staff members provide guidance to communities in leveraging other University resources and partners with the specific focus on community development and capacity building at all levels.
