ANNOUNCEMENTS

In order to better serve students during the campus move-in period, the Action Card Office and Transportation Services will be open Saturday, Aug. 17, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 18, from noon to 4 p.m. for essential services such as production of Action Cards, Bama Cash deposits, parking-permit sales. Both offices are located in the Campus Drive Parking Deck/Transit Hub at 451 Campus Drive East.

All UA faculty, staff, students and visitors who own, operate or store any bicycle on the UA campus should register it with UA Transportation Services. Registration may be done online at myBama. Click here to register. Bike permits must be picked up at the Parking Services office located in the Campus Drive Parking Deck/Transit Hub at 451 Campus Drive East. There is no charge to register a bicycle. For more information about the UA bicycle policy, click here or visit the Transportation Services office at 451 Campus Drive East.

The Office of Information Technology is implementing a program of scheduled changes to UA’s wireless services. The changes will reduce and eventually eliminate the use of unsecured wireless connections on UA’s network. The UA RESNET Wireless Network is no longer available. Students will still have full access to wireless services using the UA-WPA2 and, where necessary, the UA-WPA-PSK connections. Detailed instructions for connecting to the UA-WPA2 network are provided on the OIT website at http://oit.ua.edu/oit/services/wi-fi-protected-access-wpa. Individuals may contact the IT Service Desk at 348-5555 if they experience problems connecting.

The City of Tuscaloosa Water and Sewer Department has implemented several service options to increase efficiency and meet increased demand as college students return to the area for the academic year. Click here for information, including a list of service options for both new and existing customers. The new services and options are subject to change and adjust with demand. For more information, call Tuscaloosa 311 at 205-248-5311.

CAMPUS PARKING

Click here to view a map of road closures on campus.

Riverside Residential Area — Portions of the Riverside residential parking deck will not be available until September due to rain delays impacting construction. Once the new deck opens, an additional 500 spaces in the northern residential community-parking zone will be available. Until the Riverside deck fully opens, the Ferguson deck will be used as overflow parking for students assigned to the northern residential zone.

Colonial Drive and Magnolia Drive — In order to ensure the safety of students who are participating in sorority recruitment and to ease congestion in the sorority area, Colonial Drive from University Boulevard to Bryant Drive and Magnolia Drive from Bryant Drive to Eighth Street will be closed to all traffic except faculty and staff whose vehicles display UA parking permits, state vehicles and Crimson Ride buses. Vehicles with passes for the northeast Stadium Drive lot and for sorority lots will also be allowed access. Closure of these two roads will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. or when recruitment activities conclude each evening through Friday, Aug. 16. On Saturday, Aug. 17, Magnolia and Colonial drives will be closed to all traffic until the crowds dissipate on that afternoon. Avoid traveling through this area if possible. Drivers who must enter the sorority area should use extreme caution.

EVENTS

The Division of Student Affairs will host Week of Welcome Aug. 16-29 to help new students acclimate to the University. The two-week series, featuring more than 50 events, is designed to help first-year and transfer students transition to academic and student life at the Capstone by learning about campus life and the Tuscaloosa community.

New this year is a kickoff event on Aug. 18 at Coleman Coliseum that will allow departments and student organizations the opportunity to promote their upcoming events face-to-face with new students. The kickoff will feature a pep rally and carnival-type activities. Another highlight of WOW is the convocation for new students on Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. in Foster Auditorium. University administrators will be on hand as the Class of 2017 takes the Capstone Creed.

Visit http://www.wow.ua.edu for more information, including a schedule of events.

University departments, student organizations and approved community vendors have until Aug. 23 to register for Get on Board Day, which will be held Aug. 29 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Seventh Avenue. Registration information can be found at http://thesource.ua.edu/gobd. Get On Board day is an interactive involvement fair where students learn about the available organizations at UA.
