Mary Margaret McCord to rep Alabama in 2013 Miss USA competition

Gadsden native and University of Alabama master’s student Mary Margaret McCordwill represent Alabama at the Miss USA competition from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. This year’s pageant will air live on June 16, 2013 from 8-10 p.m. central time on NBC and will be distributed internationally. McCord will join delegates from each of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia for more than two weeks as she takes part in a schedule of fun filled events leading up to the exciting live network telecast. She won Miss Alabama USA 2013 pageant in December at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre.

Right about now, lots of new high school graduates in our area are enjoying life after high school and waiting to start college. One group of graduates might have made it to college on their own, but this fall and beyond, they’ll be in a better position to excel because of one corporate leader who convinced successful friends in law, business, medicine and other areas to take a hands-on approach to changing lives. Cedric Powell may be fast, but football is not sending the Carver High valedictorian to the University of Alabama. “My goal is to actually become that stepping stone for my family.”
