ANNOUNCEMENTS

Every 10 years, The University of Alabama undergoes a reaffirmation of accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. A major component of the reaffirmation process is the development of a “Quality Enhancement Plan.” The QEP is an institutional initiative designed to enhance student learning and the quality of the educational experience at UA. This SACS reaccreditation requirement is an opportunity for UA to target its energies over the next five years toward a particular student-learning endeavor. UA faculty, staff, students and alumni are invited to submit ideas that could serve as the theme for UA’s QEP. Visit http://sacs.ua.edu/QEP for more information about the “Great Idea” campaign and to submit an idea. The submission deadline is April 20.

On-campus interviews for the position of provost will be held this month. To view the curriculum vitae for each of the four candidates visit http://www.provost.ua.edu.  Presentations from the candidates are open to faculty, staff and students. Dr. Dave Francko, UA associate provost and dean of the Graduate School, was interviewed on April 9. Interviews for the remaining candidates will be held from 11 a.m. until noon as follows:

  • Dr. Pam Whitten, dean and professor, College of Communication Arts and Sciences, Michigan State University -– April 19, Room 309, Ferguson Center
  • Dr. Gordon Emslie, provost and vice president for academic affairs, Western Kentucky University -– April 23, Heritage Room, Ferguson Center
  • Dr. Kimberly Espy, vice president for research and innovation, dean of the Graduate School, the University of Oregon — April 30, Heritage Room, Ferguson Center

UA students have until April 28 to complete Student Opinions of Instruction course evaluation surveys. Surveys for the School of Social Work may be submitted through May 5. SOI surveys allow students to confidentially rate their UA learning experience and encourage feedback about their courses and instructors. Students will now be able to select either the standard or the new mobile view of SOI. The mobile feature will make the surveys easy to navigate using smartphones or other mobile devices. The mobile feature should function well with newer Android, iOS and Windows Mobile devices. Confidential reports of survey results are provided to UA faculty and administrators after grades are submitted. Student ratings are important in helping instructors improve their teaching and in helping the University evaluate courses and faculty. For more information, visit the SOI website or send an email to soi@ua.edu.

Students who are interested in completing a survey regarding smoking on campus can do so at myBama. The survey is at the bottom left corner of the myBama home page.
