UA Junior Wins Regional Advertising Scholarship

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Katie Bontrager, a junior in The University of Alabama’s department of advertising and public relations, has been named the 2013 recipient of the American Advertising Federation’s Seventh District Jan Gardner Scholarship.

Bontrager, of Clarksville, Tenn., is heavily involved in UA’s College of Communication and Information Sciences as vice president of the Capstone Advertising Federation, Capstone Agency creative director, LessThanUThink head designer and Ad Team planbook director.

“Most millenials boast about their ability to multi-task, often without follow through,” said Teri Henley, advertising and public relations instructor. “Katie over promises and then over delivers every time. I am so pleased we have her here for one more year to work on our competition teams and student agency. I am already telling underclassmen to look to her as an example of how to be a stand-out student.”

The Jan Gardner Scholarship is a competitive award given to a student with at least a 3.0 GPA who is studying an advertising-related discipline. Students from any District 7 AAF college chapter in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee are eligible.

The award will be presented Saturday, April 20, at the district’s spring convention.
