UA’s Sonic Frontiers Presents Raudelunas ’Pataphysical Redux

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Raudelunas ’Pataphysical Redux, will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Ferguson Center Theatre on The University of Alabama campus. UA’s Sonic Frontiers concert series and Trans/Productions are sponsoring the concert.

The performance will follow a closing reception of the Raudelunas Exposition at the Ferguson Art Gallery from 5 to 7 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

Raudelunas ’Pataphysical Redux will befuddle, amuse, amaze and inspire the audience as it offers a glimpse into the secret history of some of Alabama’s most cutting-edge artists. The group brings together many of the original members of the Alabama art collective, including composer-harpist Anne LeBaron; avant-blues guitar master Davey Williams; violinist-violist LaDonna Smith; big band leader and wood sculptor Craig Nutt; and guests.

Together, they return to the site of one of their recordings, “The Raudelunas ‘Pataphysical Revue,” recorded at the Ferguson Theater in 1975 and listed in The Wire magazine’s 100 Records That Set The World On Fire While No One Was Listening.

The performance also will feature rare footage of Raudelunas from a 1970s UA homecoming parade. This “lost” footage has not been seen since it was filmed by artist and UA alumnus Fletcher Hayes.

Sonic Frontiers is an innovative concert series that brings further artistic diversity to West Alabama and invites creative exchange between world class performers of adventurous music, students and the greater community through public performances and discussions. All Sonic Frontiers events are free and open to the public.

The events are sponsored by the UA’s New College, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Music, Creative Campus, Honors College, Blount Undergraduate Initiative and Capstone International.

UA’s College of Arts and Sciences is the University’s largest division and the largest liberal arts college in the state. Students from the College have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships and memberships on the USA Today Academic All American Team.
