Any student who plays a band instrument is invited to audition for the UA Campus Band. Visit http://campusband.ua.edu for more details. Seating auditions will be Jan. 14, 7-8 p.m. in 204 Moody Music Building. Rehearsals will be held every Monday, 7:30-9:30 p.m., beginning Jan. 21.
ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
The offices for the departments of American studies and anthropology have moved to the old Capstone Medical Center for the Spring Semester 2013 due to renovations in ten Hoor Hall. The American studies main office is temporarily located in Room 236 of the CMC and the anthropology main office is temporarily located in Room 323. The Capstone Medical Center is located at 700 University Blvd. E. between the Stallings Center (RISE program) and the School of Nursing on the eastern edge of campus near McFarland Boulevard. The CMC is not the same building as the Student Health Center or the University Medical Center. For more information about offices in each department, call American studies at 348-5940 or anthropology at 348-1959. Applications for the 77th annual Miss Corolla Pageant are due Jan. 15 by 5 p.m. An interest meeting will be held Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. in 301 Ferguson Center. The entry form and $125 entry fee can be turned in at the meeting or anytime before Jan. 15 at the Office of Student Media located at 923 University Blvd., next to the Walk of Champions in front of Bryant-Denny Stadium. Students seeking a unique classroom experiences and beneficial leadership opportunities can apply to become Peer Leaders. UA Peer Leaders partner with faculty members to serve as role models and mentors for first-year students and also contribute to the instruction of courses for those students. The courses are designed to support new students as they transition to UA. Peer Leaders participate in training in Spring Semester 2013 and serve in their roles for Fall Semester 2013, while also participating in a fall forum that can be taken for course credit. Homegrown Alabama is currently filling several positions and is seeking interested students to help plan and run the market. Homegrown Alabama is a student-run, on-campus farmers market held each year from April through October. Positions are suitable for students who are interested in local food, small business, nonprofits, event planning, public relations, marketing, arts and crafts, and local music. Available positions include assistant market manager, kids’ crafts coordinator, craft-vendor coordinator, talent booking and other leadership positions.
