UA Students Awarded Positive Parking Incentive Scholarships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Five University of Alabama students have been awarded Positive Parking Incentive scholarships in recognition of their good parking records for the spring 2012 semester.

Winners of the $100 scholarships are David Beasley, Thomas Brennan, Kenton Byers, Kristy Lambeth and Jonathan Roberts. The scholarships are co-sponsored by the UA department of transportation services and the Student Government Association Judicial Board.

“I’m truly excited that Chris D’Esposito and Transportation Services were so willing to work with us in developing an incentive to encourage better parking habits,” said Joe Hart, chief justice of the judicial board. “This is the second time that we have given out scholarships, and so far the program has been a great success. I hope that more students will continue to learn about the program, and that it will continue to help encourage better parking habits.”

The winning students’ names were randomly selected by computer from the names of all students with parking permits who received no parking citations or warnings during the spring semester.

“We know it can be challenging, at times, to park according to the University rules and regulations, but doing so provides a safe and efficient environment for everyone,” said Chris D’Esposito, assistant director of transportation services.

“We appreciate all the students who park correctly, and we are pleased to provide these incentives to encourage all students to take the time to park safely.”

The first Positive Parking Incentive scholarships were awarded for the fall 2011 semester, and plans are to continue to award five scholarships at the end of each semester. The scholarship funds will be credited to the winners’ student accounts.
