UA Professor Wins Entry to Dance Film Festival

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A film by Sarah M. Barry, assistant professor of dance in The University of Alabama’s department of theatre and dance, has been selected for the 2012 San Francisco Dance Film Festival.

The winning submission was Barry’s “there, again.” The film is based on a live dance of the same name that was first performed in the Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre’s fall 2010 concert. The film was produced in collaboration with Christian Coleman, a UA graduate who shot and edited the project. The film was one of 25 included in the festival.

The film “there, again” also will be included in one of the Screendance Shorts programs at the Ninth Street Independent Film Center in March.

UA’s department of theatre and dance is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest liberal arts college in the state. Students from the College have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships and memberships on the USA Today Academic All American Team.
