Career Center Director Named at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — John Travis Railsback has been named executive director of The University of Alabama Career Center.

“The University is extremely pleased that Travis Railsback is joining the Career Center team as executive director,” said Molly Lawrence, UA associate vice president of student affairs. “His experience within the University and outside of higher education have prepared him to take our Career Center to the next level.

“He is committed to providing our students excellent career development services and employment opportunities,” Lawrence said. “His understanding of employer development and the challenges employers face will position UA to be a university of choice in meeting employer needs in a global market.”

His new position was effective Feb. 1.

“I am looking forward to joining an outstanding Career Center team,”   Railsback said. “Our approach will be one of continuous improvement and collaboration with the goal of providing UA students and alumni with exceptional career services.”

An experienced human resources professional, Railsback has been associate director, manager of recruitment, and senior generalist for UA Human Resources, where he has worked since 2007. As associate director since 2009, he directed the University’s employee relations, recruitment and training and development areas. He also partnered with key stakeholders across campus to successfully increase use of www.jobs.ua.edu for student assistant job postings.

He holds a master’s degree in higher education administration and a bachelor’s degree from UA.

Railsback served in various human resources leadership roles before arriving at UA. During Railsback’s six years as human resource manager for Rite Aid Corp., he partnered with UA faculty providing undergraduate and MBA students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a work setting.

The UA Career Center provides career education programming, assessment and counseling that lead individuals to manage their careers. It serves as a liaison to business, government and nonprofit organizations by developing professional and internship employment opportunities that align with students’ objectives and that foster long term relationships among students, alumni, faculty and recruiting organizations.
