UA’s CHES Presents Jack Davis Alumni Awards

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama College of Human Environmental Sciences presented the Jack Davis Professional Achievement Awards during recent homecoming activities on campus.

This year’s honorees include Colleen Cornelius, Elizabeth Hensleigh Chaney, Michael Blackwell, Carolyn Elizabeth Pritchett, Geoffrey Parks, Molly Killman, Johna Register-Mihalik, Sara Roberts Longshore, Kimberly Rose Reynolds and Kyndall Waters.

The awards are presented annually to outstanding CHES alumni for their professional accomplishments. Dr. Jack Davis, the first male graduate of the College, was a pioneer in emphasizing nutrition and dentistry.

Colleen Cornelius

Cornelius, of Waterford, Wis., is a consultant and team leader for IntraPrism in Racine, Wis., a commissioner for the Waterford Waterway Management District and an adjunct professor for a UA distance education class in digital tools. She earned her master’s in interactive technology from UA, a bachelor’s in business administration from Cardinal Stritch University and an associate degree in applied science ecommerce from the Milwaukee Area Technical College.

Elizabeth Hensleigh Chaney

Chaney, of Gainesville, Fla., is an assistant professor of health education and behavior at the University of Florida. She helped UF students in Eta Sigma Gamma, a national health education honorary, raise money for the UA Acts of Kindness fund by selling “Gators Helping the Tide” t-shirts.  Chaney received her doctorate in health education form Texas A&M University and a master’s in health studies and a bachelor’s in biology, both from UA.

Michael Blackwell

Blackwell, of New York, N.Y., is a denim designer with more than 10 years of experience in the apparel industry. He is senior denim designer for MESH, or Music Entertainment Sports Holdings, and has worked at Sean John, RocaWear-8732, IMI Apparel and ECKO UNLTD. Blackwell earned a bachelor’s in apparel design from UA.

Carolyn Elizabeth Pritchett

Pritchett is a property manager, personal assistant and freelance interior designer in New York, N.Y. She has overseen and managed construction and design projects in New York City for more than five years. Pritchett earned a bachelor’s degree in interior design from UA.

Geoffrey Parks

Parks, of Mt. Holly, N.C., is the director of dining services for Compass Group Eurest Dining Services, a leading foodservice and support services company. In this position, he oversees facility renovations and successfully implemented a new financial reporting system. Parks earned a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management from UA and an associate degree in culinary arts from Johnson and Wales University.

Molly Killman

Killman, of Montgomery, is the nutrition and physical activity assistant director for the Alabama Department of Public Health. She has served on numerous professional organizations and is secretary for the Association of State and Territorial Public Health Nutrition Directors and is president-elect of the Alabama Dietetic Association. Killman earned a bachelor’s in nutrition and food science from Auburn University and a master’s in nutrition from UA.

Johna Register-Mihalik

Register-Mihalik, of Chapel Hill, N.C., is a postdoctoral research associate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has completed extensive research and publications on sports-related injuries. Register-Mihalik earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from UA and a master’s and doctorate from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Sallye Roberts Longshore

Longshore, of Montgomery, is an education administrator for the federal programs section of the Alabama Department of Education. She has worked in the education field in Alabama for more than 30 years. Longshore earned a bachelor’s in child development and master’s in human development from UA and an educational specialist degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Kimberly Rose Reynolds

Reynolds, of Montevallo, is a senior advisor for the Welch Group in Birmingham.There, she develops comprehensive financial plans and manages investment portfolios and the internship program. Reynolds earned a bachelor’s in public relations and a master’s in family financial planning and counseling from UA.

Kyndall Waters

Waters, of Birmingham, is assistant athletic director of compliance for Birmingham-Southern College.
