UA athletics grad rate at 82 percent

The University of Alabama scored an 82, the third-highest mark in the Southeastern Conference, on Graduation Success Rate figures released Tuesday by the NCAA. The figures covered student-athletes attending UA from 2001-2004. The GSR measures the rate of graduation among athletes at Division I institutions. “We continue to improve in terms of the Graduation Success Rate, and I believe that is a testament to the hard work of our student-athletes, academic staff and faculty,” Alabama Director of Athletics Mal Moore said. “This is also further evidence of the dedication of our student-athletes and the commitment of our coaches, staff and faculty to our academic mission. I commend everyone involved for consistently doing such an excellent job.”…

Alabama Launchpad names 16 finalists for upstart awards

The Economic Development Partnership of Alabama has announced the 16 members of the 2011-2012 Alabama Launchpad class…The University of Alabama at Birmingham led with the number of finalists in the competition with six. The University of Alabama, the University of Alabama in Huntsville and the University of South Alabama each had three teams while Auburn University had one team…The three companies from the University of Alabama are Bulheller Consulting Inc. (creator of a customized software modeling tool for robotics), MicroGreen Technologies (developer of a cost-effective, environmentally sustainable fertilizer), and Nanogn (creator of a nano drug delivery platform)…
