UA Centers Offer First Nonprofit Protégé Program for Students

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Community Service Center and Career Center are teaming up to offer the first Nonprofit Protégé Program, an experience that will allow UA students to work alongside a nonprofit organization director.

A limited number of students will be selected to work with an organization leader during the eight-week program in Tuscaloosa.

Students will be required to participate in an orientation session, communicate with the nonprofit mentor to create a weekly schedule at the agency, sign a confidentiality document and develop an initiative to increase UA’s volunteer contributions to the nonprofit agency.

“I’m excited about our partnership of the Nonprofit Protégé Program because it will help students understand the value of the experience and give them knowledge for developing skills,” said Mary Lowery, assistant director of the Career Center.

Sudents are required to be a minimum of sophomore standing at UA this semester and have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.

A detailed application is due no later than Friday, Sept. 30, by 5 p.m. to the Community Service Center in 346 Ferguson Center.
