ANNOUNCEMENTS

Faculty, staff and students who were affected by the April 27 tornado have until June 27 to apply for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. To apply, visit http://www.disasterassistance.gov or call toll-free 800-621-3362. The TTY number is 800-462-7585.

Online registration for student-parking permits for the 2011-12 school year will open on June 27. Freshmen who have attended orientation by June 30 will be able to register according to the following schedule. Freshmen attending orientation after June 30 will have to register for classes before they can register for parking permits.

  • Students who registered for classes March 21-23 will begin registering for parking permits on June 27.
  • Students who registered for classes March 24-28 will begin registering for parking permits on June 28.
  • Students who registered for classes March 29-31 will begin registering for parking permits on June 29.
  • Students who registered for classes April 1-5 will begin registering for parking permits on June 30.

Online registration for 2010-11 parking permits is closed. Students who need to obtain permits for the current school year should go to the Transportation Services office in 103 Student Services Center. The office is open from 7:45 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Email uapark@bama.ua.edu with questions or comments or call 348-5471.

The Student Health Center is switching to the NextGen electronic medical-record system. To make the transition smoother, students are asked to bring their insurance cards and photo identifications with them when they visit the health center. Students who are interested in volunteering with tornado disaster relief can complete the online form at http://volunteer.ua.edu/relief.cfm to receive a weekly update with service opportunities. More information: Wahnee Sherman at wsherman@sa.ua.edu or 348-2865.

Faculty, staff and students who are residents of Tuscaloosa can submit their ideas about what they would like to see as part of the new Tuscaloosa by visiting http://townhall.tuscaloosaforward.com. The website also has options that will allow users to vote on or grade the ideas of fellow users. Also, at http://tuscaloosaforward.com residents will be able to follow along with the progress of a rebuilding task force and its consultants as they work toward a July 15 deadline to craft a preliminary master plan for development.

STUDENT AFFAIRS

The Student Government Association is currently seeking student opinion regarding SGA projects and programs. Students interested in providing their opinions can complete a brief 10-question survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8BTFDG8.

ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

The Huxford Symphony Orchestra at UA’s School of Music is looking for talented string players. Non-music majors who play violin, viola, cello or double bass and are interested in earning a scholarship to play in the orchestra should contact Dr. Demondrae Thurman at dthurman@music.ua.edu. All interested students will be required to audition and, upon acceptance, must register for the orchestra as a class (MUA 150/350/550 for 1 credit hour). The Huxford Symphony Orchestra rehearses on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 p.m. until 3:45 p.m.

EVENTS, ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

Registration is now open for the free Textbook Rental Conference sponsored by the University Supply Store on June 30 at the Bryant Conference Center. Michael Wood, senior vice president of syndicated research for TRU and a UA alumnus, will provide the keynote address. TRU specializes in youth research and insights, focusing on tweens, teens and twenty-somethings. UA faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the keynote address or the entire conference.
