National science teacher conference at UA

Dozens of science teachers from across the U.S. are at the Capstone this week. They’re taking part in a national conference on the best practices for teaching undergraduate science. The conference is sponsored by the National Study of Education in Undergraduate Science. It is funded in part by the University of Alabama. Forty universities and colleges are represented at the conference.
UA students submit films to Hollywood competition

It’s an exciting time for a group of talented, young filmmakers. They’re getting ready to take some of their films off to Hollywood and enter them in a big competition called the Campus Movie Fest International Grand Finale.
“Gone with the Wind” fan displays collection

The novel “Gone with the Wind” turns 75 this month, and fans of Scarlett, Rhett, and Tara can take in a unique collection of Gone with the Wind memorabilia. About 80 pieces of Williams’ collection are on display at the University of Alabama’s Gorgas Library.
Miss USA’s second runner-up is a UA sophomore

Madeline Mitchell was named second runner up in the Miss USA Pageant in Las Vegas Sunday night. Twenty-two-year-old Mitchell is from Russellville. She is an education major at the University of Alabama.
