UA Students Team Up with Cold Stone Creamery for Spring Philanthropy Events

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Students in The University of Alabama College of Communication and Information Sciences’ public relations program have teamed up with Cold Stone Creamery for several spring philanthropic events.

The following projects will benefit the UA Men’s and Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Teams and the individual philanthropies of UA Greek organizations:

Sinless Splurge

Students can have a guilt-free treat before spring break at the “Sinless Splurge” event on Wednesday, March 9, from 6-9 p.m. Featuring Cold Stone’s line of low-fat, frozen desserts, “Sinless Splurge” attendees can enjoy cold treats at a 25 percent discount while listening to the local band, Lottie and The Finest Hour.

With every Cold Stone product purchased, each customer will receive a coupon redeemable for discounted purchases at Private Gallery, Palm Beach Tan, Alabama Book Store or Alabama Express. All donations from the event will go toward the wheelchair basketball teams.

Eat ‘N Run Relay

Hungry runners can test their endurance in the “Eat ‘N Run Relay” on Saturday, March 26. Relay runners or their eating partners will quickly consume a mixture of Cold Stone’s tasty smoothies at the race’s halfway point. Participants may enter the 5k race individually or as a relay team. Winners will receive a cash price and free weekly ice cream. The 5k relay will also benefit the wheelchair basketball teams. Registration fliers will be available at the Student Recreation Center, Ferguson Center and Cold Stone.

Get Chill for Your Phil

UA fraternities and sororities have the chance to win money for their philanthropies throughout the month of March with “Get Chill for Your Phil.” A cash prize will be awarded to the Greek organization with the most Cold Stone purchases at the end of the month. Additionally, the top three fraternities and top three sororities will be entered into “Phil Up for Philanthropy” on Monday, April 4. The event will consist of timed ice cream eating contests in which the top three sororities will compete against each other, as will the top three fraternities. The winning sorority and winning fraternity will be awarded cash prizes to go toward their philanthropies. Participants will also receive Panhellenic points.

UA’s department of advertising and public relations, with more than 1,000 students, is the largest department in the College of Communication and Information Sciences.

Cold Stone Creamery dessert shop is located at 1130 University Blvd. in Tuscaloosa.
