Executive Committee of UA Board of Trustees Approves UA’s Proposed Acquisition of WHIL-FM in Mobile

The executive committee of The University of Alabama Board of Trustees has approved a plan for the University to acquire public radio station WHIL-FM from Spring Hill College in Mobile, pending approval by the Federal Communications Commission. The following information is being provided to listeners and supporters of Alabama Public Radio and WHIL-FM:

Today The University of Alabama and Spring Hill College have entered into an agreement that will strengthen public radio service to listeners across Alabama. With the approval of the UA and Spring Hill College Boards of Trustees, the University will file an application with the Federal Communications Commission to purchase WHIL-FM, the public radio station licensed to Spring Hill College and serving Mobile and its surrounding communities.

The University’s acquisition of WHIL-FM will help ensure the continuation of the quality programming expected by public radio listeners.  News and information, classical music and weekend entertainment will continue to be available to audiences who depend on public radio for the very best in national and local programming.
