Renovated Foster facilities ready for tip-off

Foster Auditorium’s hardwood court will be put to use for the first time since the building’s recent renovations at 1 p.m this Sunday when the women’s basketball team hosts Florida. “Foster will open this Sunday for the women to finish their last three games of the season there,” said Jessica Pare, assistant athletic media relations director. “Then the volleyball team will start their season in the fall.”…

Campus MovieFest wraps up at Ferg

The Campus MovieFest finale attracted a crowd almost big enough to fill up the Ferguson Center Theater… “This is one of the biggest events that I’ve done,” said J.R. Hardman, the video manager for the Campus MovieFest satellite tour. “The line getting in is pretty long, and we’re just really excited about it.”…Out of 120 teams that submitted a video to Campus MovieFest this year, only 16 were screened and eligible for awards on Thursday night…The winners in every category received a version of Final Cut Pro software, iPods and a trip to the international finale later this year…

SGA resolution encourages student voting

The SGA Senate approved a resolution Thursday to encourage voter registration in the Tuscaloosa area for the Seven-Day Sales Memorandum vote on Feb. 22…Rose also sponsored a resolution during Thursday’s SGA Senate to leave Bruno Business Library open 24 hours during exam week. Rose said the resolution gives students more opportunities to avoid overcrowded libraries, which would be an academic boon…

Spring Dance Alabama! opens next week

Just five days before the opening night of Dance Alabama!, at one of the dancers’ last dress rehearsals, director and professor of dance Cornelius Carter addressed his students: “Everything better be right, or we’re not going anywhere,” he said. “We want it perfect.” That is precisely how Carter aims to run his program. “I train my dancers to own their work,” Carter said. “People constantly ask me, ‘Is this an undergraduate program?’ And it is. I teach them to be independent. We wake up every day to something we all love doing, and the audience can feel that.” This semester, the completely student-choreographed production will showcase 21 dances in all, with some students participating in as many as three dances…Beginning Tuesday, performances will run nightly starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday’s performance will begin at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, because of the production’s large number of sold-out crowds in recent years, there will be an additional performance, at 2 p.m…

Miss UA Pageant to be held Saturday

The Mss UA pageant, a preliminary stage of the Miss America program, will be held Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Bama Theatre. Sponsored by the UA National Alumni Association, the pageant will feature 19 women representing UA’s finest students from all over the country…
