UA Forensics Director Receives Two Revered Awards

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Frank Thompson, director of The University of Alabama Forensics Council and associate professor of communication studies within the College of Communication and Information Sciences, recently received two prestigious forensics awards.

Dr. Frank Thompson, who will retire at the end of this academic year, has led the UA Forensics Council to 16 national championships.

Thompson received the American Forensics Association Distinguished Service Award and the Isocrates Award from the Berry College Forensics Union.

The American Forensics Association Distinguished Service Award recognizes long-term, distinguished service and significant contributions to the forensic community on a national level.

It was the first time the Isocrates Award was bestowed, and it is for “unparalleled dedication to forensic excellence.”

The Forensics Council is the official competitive speech organization for UA. Under the leadership of Thompson, who is in his 31st and final year at UA, the student teams have won 16 national championships and are considered among the premier speech groups in the country.
