UA Student’s Hometown Names Her Grand Marshal of Christmas Parade for Tartan Design

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The city of Stevenson is honoring a University of Alabama student who earlier created the University’s official tartan design by selecting her as grand marshal of its upcoming Christmas parade.

Linnzi A. Rich, a junior, interior-design major from Stevenson, will be the grand marshal in the parade that begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4 and proceeds through downtown Stevenson, said Loretta Barbee, co-chair of the parade.

We Are Crimson

Students enrolled in UA’s College of Human Environmental Sciences’ department of clothing, textiles, and interior design were earlier invited to create plaids indicative of UA’s past and present. Results from an online vote were given to an independent judging panel who considered them before selecting the official UA tartan.

Rich’s design, which she named “We Are Crimson,” was selected as the winner, and it will later be incorporated into actual merchandise available for purchase. Rich received a $1,000 scholarship and will receive a percentage of sales made from the tartan. Additional profits will be placed in a scholarship fund to assist Human Environmental Sciences’ students.
