  • December 13th, 2010

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Ferosh Jacob, a computer science doctoral student in The University of Alabama College of Engineering, was recently named one of three finalists at the OOPSLA/SPLASH student research competition held in Reno, Nev., earlier this semester.

The OOPSLA/SPLASH competition was sponsored by Microsoft and the Association for Computing Machinery.

“It is a tremendous honor, given the quality of the other contestants,” Jacob said. “I am proud to represent the University of Alabama alongside other great research universities.” The two other finalists were from Carnegie Mellon University and the Open University of Israel.

Jacob, from Kollam, India, received his bachelor’s degree from the National Institute of Technology in Calicut, and his master’s degree from Clarkson University. In 2009, Jacob began working with Dr. Jeff Gray, UA associate professor of computer science, on software engineering applications as part of his doctoral work at UA.

Jacob is now qualified for next year’s ACM Student Research Competition grand finals.
